    Dr. Fingert presented stem cell research of glaucoma disease mechanisms at the 2013 meeting of the American Society for Human Genetics in Boston. The Glaucoma Genetics Laboratory is collaborating with Budd Tucker and his ophthalmic stem cell lab to study glaucoma. Three major advances in the team's stem cell research of glaucoma were presented.

    The American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI), established in 1908, is one of the nation's oldest and most respected medical honor societies.

    A research group led by investigator Takeshi Iwata recently reported studies of the role of the optineurin gene in normal tension glaucoma using stem cell and transgenic mouse approaches. Their study advanced and confirmed that optineurin and TBK1 genes are glaucoma genes and that their interaction is important in the development of normal tension glaucoma.
