Dr. Suman Thapa, director of glaucoma services in Kathmandu’s Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology visits the Department of Ophthalmology and the Glaucoma Genetics Lab at the University of Iowa.

Dr. Thapa gave a grand rounds presentation, “Providing Glaucoma Care in the Himalayas” to the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences on March 11, 2014. He reported his work to determine the prevalence of each type of glaucoma in Nepal and outlined some of the challenges that are being overcome to provide care to poor communities and the obstacles to treating patients in remote mountainous areas.
